Pharmacy Technician Certificate

Program Description

In this short intensive program students will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to qualify for entry-level positions as pharmacy technicians. Furthermore, upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to pass the national certification exam administered by the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).

The Bramson ORT College Pharmacy Technician Certificate program is very practically oriented. Students will learn in modern state-of-the-art laboratories, where they will receive individual attention, hands-on training and tutoring.

The program includes courses in pharmacology, medical terminology, pharmacy calculations, pharmacy procedures and clinical procedures. As well, students will be required to complete an internship at the end of the program. This internship will help students to gain the necessary practical experience needed to obtain employment in the continually growing pharmaceutical industry.

Credits obtained by students while in the Pharmacy Technician Certificate program are transferable to two-year and four-year programs at Bramson ORT College and other colleges and universities worldwide. In order to earn the Pharmacy Technician Certificate at Bramson ORT College, a student must complete at least 30 credits.

Career Outlook

Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies under the direction of a pharmacist. Their main responsibility, besides filling prescriptions, is to prepare and dispense drugs that will be administered orally or topically. This generally includes retrieving drugs in the correct dosage form and strength, measuring the appropriate amount of the drug, and producing a prescription label. Other duties of pharmacy technicians include taking inventory of pharmacy supplies and completing pharmacy insurance forms. Graduates of the Bramson ORT College Pharmacy Technician Certificate program will be able to complete all of the tasks listed above.
